Following over a year of enduring the worldwide spread of COVID-19, many schools remain closed. Malnutrition, food insecurity, even starvation, continue to rise, especially in under-resourced countries who face great risk.
At the core of our vital work lies our shared mission: To ensure that those with the most need can reach life changing nutrition. That’s why during this ongoing global pandemic, our Casa Herbalife Nutrition program didn’t pause. Our emergency relief efforts didn’t falter. Instead, we scaled up, even expanded our work to bring healthy meals, supplies, and care to the countless kids and families we serve.
Of the 168 organizations we work with around the world, 28 of our partners are located nearby in North America. 42 million people in America alone, including 13 million children, could experience hunger this year.
Here are just a few ways we’re making a difference together across the United States:
Feed the Children
In coordination with Herbalife Nutrition as well as Feed the Children, we provided food pantries, soup kitchens, and other vital food service programs with many of the items they need to support vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Through this partnership with Feed the Children, we also collaborated with A Community of Friends, a California-based nonprofit, to distribute meals, hygienic supplies including shampoo and condition, and more, reaching 200 families in the local South Los Angeles community.
“Feed the Children is taking action to ensure our neighbors aren’t forgotten. Eighty percent of our standard domestic work involves supplying community partners with the bulk of the items they need to do their daily work. This will continue. Our trucks will keep moving across the U.S. to bring support to those families who need it. We expect our work to only increase during these unprecedented times. Through our vast network of community and corporate partners … we are continuing to work each day to ensure that no child is hungry.” -Travis Arnold, President and CEO Feed the Children
Martha’s Table
As a result of our grant-funded support, our friends at Martha’s Table in the District of Columbia went from distributing 2,000 bags of no-cost groceries each week, to 2,000 bags a DAY starting in March 2020.
Through McKenna’s Wagon, the organization’s food delivery service, the D.C. team also provides 350 healthy meals each night to its neighbors, rain or shine!
And last year, just days after the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the D.C. area, Martha’s Table invested $1.4 million directly into the community, giving $9,000 to 137 families in need of assistance, also providing diapers, formula, and grocery store gift cards across the following four-months.
We’re proud to call these partners our teammates in striving toward a world without hunger. It brings us great pride to be able to collaborate with leaders like these to improve the lives of those facing hardship during this unprecedented moment in history.
With vaccine distribution expanding every single day, there’s hope on the horizon. But at HNF, we’re just getting started. Thank you for being part of this critical work to help kids, families, and entire communities, reach their full potential and their dreams.
